How do I clean my aligners?2023-12-09T19:06:17+05:30

Aligners should be cleaned daily using a soft toothbrush and mild soap or the recommended cleaning solution provided by your dentist. Avoid using hot water, as it can distort the aligners.

Can I eat or drink while wearing aligners?2023-12-09T19:07:01+05:30

It is recommended to remove aligners while eating or drinking anything other than water to prevent damage or staining. Afterward, it’s crucial to clean your teeth before putting the aligners back in.

How often should I wear my aligners?2023-12-09T19:02:06+05:30

Aligners should be worn for 20-22 hours a day for optimal results. They should only be removed for eating, drinking (except water), and oral hygiene routines.

Is the treatment painful?2023-12-09T19:07:13+05:30

Unlike traditional braces, aligners are generally more comfortable. Some patients may experience mild discomfort or pressure when switching to a new set of aligners, but this is temporary and a sign that the treatment is progressing.

Are aligners as effective as traditional braces?2023-12-09T19:07:30+05:30

Yes, aligners can be as effective as traditional braces for many cases, addressing issues like crowding, spacing, and misalignment. However, the suitability depends on the severity and type of orthodontic problems.

How long does the treatment with aligners typically take?2023-12-09T19:07:38+05:30

The duration of treatment varies based on individual cases, but on average, it can range from a few months to over a year. Your dentist will provide a more accurate estimate during your initial consultation.

What are dental aligners, and how do they work?2023-12-09T19:07:47+05:30

Dental aligners are custom-made, removable trays that gradually straighten teeth. They work by applying controlled pressure to specific teeth, gently guiding them into the desired position over time.

How long will they last?2022-05-23T11:06:36+05:30

Implants are a well-established, tried-and-tested treatment.  90 per cent of modern implants last for at least 15 years.

Do implants hurt?2022-05-23T11:05:19+05:30

It is widely considered a painless procedure and as simple as a simple tooth extraction if the surgery does not involve sinus or grafting procedures. This can be carried out under local anaesthetic with sedation or with a general anaesthetic.  You will not feel any pain at the time, but you may feel some discomfort during the week following the surgery.  This is usually due to having stitches in place, and the normal healing process.

Can implants always be used to replace missing teeth?2022-05-23T11:03:27+05:30

Certainly yes if there is sufficient good quality bone present in the area concerned.

What are dental implants?2022-05-23T10:59:39+05:30

A dental implant is a titanium metal rod which is placed into the jawbone.  It is used to support one or more false teeth.  In practice, both the false teeth and their supporting rod are known as ‘implants’.

What is the cost of braces?2020-03-18T19:44:34+05:30

Usually the braces cost starts from Rs. 20,000 onwards and goes upto Rs 55,000/- for traditional metal braces. For ceramic or tooth colored braces the cost starts from Rs.30,000 and extends upto Rs,70.000 depending upon the severity of the case. Aligners normally start at Rs. 70,000 onwards.

What are the precautions while undergoing braces?2020-03-18T19:41:59+05:30

Your diet modification is a must while you are getting braces treatment. You are not supposed to eat hard, sticky and crunchy food stuffs. The banned food stuffs include toffees, chocolates, pizza, burgers, pastries, chips, non veg, nuts, gajak, nuts, cakes, hard fruits & sticky food items.  All the precautions for braces treatment differs from person to person. While some people eat all of these and still maintain their brackets intact while others find totally unacceptable reasons like i was kicked by my smaller brother or was hit by a football on my face. Physical injury to the braces can worsen the situation as is evident from the look of braces.

What are the types of teeth braces?2020-03-18T19:33:34+05:30

With the latest technology coming into braces, we have a lot of options to choose from in braces. We can opt for traditional metal braces, self ligating braces, ceramic braces with metal wire or ceramic braces with fiber wire. The even latest and premium version of braces is aligners wherein no braces is required at all.

Do we need to remove teeth in all types of braces treatment?2020-03-18T19:29:51+05:30

No teeth removal of premolars is not required in all cases. It is only required in cases where the space is not enough to accommodate an aligned arch of teeth. For cases like spacing in teeth or mild crowding no removal is required.

Are braces painful?2020-03-18T19:27:24+05:30

Braces are more or less a painless treatment modality. You can have slight discomfort or pain during the first 2-3 days of bracket placement or wire placement which can be easily managed by a very basic painkiller like paracetamol.

Usually braces treatment can range from 6 months to 2 years of duration. On an average it takes around one hand a half years to complete the case. Some severe cases may require longer than the usual expected time. Your regular visits and proper maintenance of your braces also impact your treatment duration. If you are irregular and break your brackets often the treatment duration may increase.

Braces can be given to anyone until the age of 60 if your gums and bone surrounding them is healthy. What can I do to prevent my teeth from cracking?2019-09-06T14:02:13+05:30

While cracked teeth are not completely preventable, you can take some steps to make your teeth less susceptible to cracks.

  • Don’t chew on hard objects such as ice, unpopped popcorn kernels or pens.
  • Don’t clench or grind your teeth.
  • If you clench or grind your teeth while you sleep, talk to your dentist about getting a retainer or other mouthguard to protect your teeth.
  • Wear a mouthguard or protective mask when playing contact sports.
After treatment for a cracked tooth, will my tooth completely heal?2019-09-06T14:01:45+05:30

Unlike a broken bone, the fracture in a cracked tooth will not heal. In spite of treatment, some cracks may continue to progress and separate, resulting in loss of the tooth. Placement of a crown on a cracked tooth provides maximum protection but does not guarantee success in all cases.

The treatment you receive for your cracked tooth is important because it will relieve pain and reduce the likelihood that the crack will worsen. Once treated, most cracked teeth continue to function and provide years of comfortable chewing. Talk to your endodontist about your particular diagnosis and treatment recommendations.

How will my cracked tooth be treated?2019-09-06T14:00:46+05:30

There are many different types of cracked teeth. The treatment and outcome for your tooth depend on the type, location, and extent of the crack.

Craze Lines

Craze lines are tiny cracks that affect only the outer enamel. These cracks are extremely common in adult teeth. Craze lines are very shallow, cause no pain, and are of no concern beyond appearances.

Fractured Cusp

When a piece of a tooth’s chewing surface breaks off, often around a filling, it’s called a fractured cusp. A fractured cusp rarely damages the pulp, and usually doesn’t cause much pain. Your dentist can place a new filling or crown over the damaged tooth to protect it.

If you’ve cracked a tooth and breathing through your mouth or drinking cold fluids is painful, bite on clean, moist gauze or cloth to help relieve symptoms until reaching your dentist’s office. Never use topical oral pain medications or place aspirin on the affected areas to eliminate pain symptoms.

Cracked Tooth

A cracked tooth means a crack extends from the chewing surface of your tooth vertically toward the root. The tooth is not yet separated into pieces, though the crack may gradually spread. Early diagnosis is important in order to save the tooth. If the crack has extended into the pulp, the tooth can be treated with a root canal procedure and a crown to protect the crack from spreading.

However, if the crack extends below the gum line, it is no longer treatable, and the tooth cannot be saved and will need to be extracted. That’s why early treatment is so important. A cracked tooth that is not treated will progressively worsen, eventually resulting in the loss of the tooth. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential in saving these teeth.

Split Tooth

A split tooth is often the result of the long-term progression of a cracked tooth. The split tooth is identified by a crack with distinct segments that can be separated. A split tooth cannot be saved intact. The position and extent of the crack, however, will determine whether any portion of the tooth can be saved. In some cases, endodontic treatment may be performed to save a portion of the tooth.

Vertical Root Fracture

Vertical root fractures are cracks that begin in the root of the tooth and extend toward the chewing surface. They often show minimal signs and symptoms and may, therefore, go unnoticed for some time. Vertical root fractures are often discovered when the surrounding bone and gum become infected. Treatment may involve extraction of the tooth. However, endodontic surgery is sometimes appropriate if a tooth can be saved by removal of the fractured portion.

What if my tooth is chipped?2019-09-06T13:56:35+05:30

Chipped teeth account for the majority of dental injuries. Most chipped teeth can be repaired either by reattaching the broken piece of tooth enamel or by bonding a tooth-colored filling or crown in place. See your dentist as soon as possible after the injury to treat your chipped tooth and keep it from worsening.

Why does a cracked tooth hurt?2019-09-06T13:55:11+05:30

To understand why a cracked tooth hurts, it helps to know something about the anatomy of the tooth. Inside the tooth, under the white enamel and a hard layer called the dentin, is the inner soft tissue called the pulp. The pulp contains the tooth’s nerves and blood vessels.

When the outer hard tissues of the tooth are cracked, chewing can cause movement of the pieces, and the pulp can become irritated. Eventually, the pulp will become damaged to the point that it can no longer heal itself.

The tooth will not only hurt when chewing but may also become sensitive to temperature extremes. In time, a cracked tooth may begin to hurt all by itself. Extensive cracks can lead to infection of the pulp tissue, which can spread to the bone and gum surrounding the tooth.

How do I know if my tooth is cracked?2019-09-06T13:53:04+05:30

Cracked teeth show a variety of symptoms, including erratic pain when chewing, possibly with the release of biting pressure, or pain when your tooth is exposed to temperature extremes. In many cases, the pain may come and go, and your dentist may have difficulty locating which tooth is causing the discomfort.

Why Teeth Get Discolored?2019-08-07T13:54:56+05:30

There are many reasons why teeth can become discolored. The major reasons are:

  • Diet – Drinking tea, coffee, red wine or other food and drink with strong colorings.
  • Smoking – Smoking can result in teeth appearing a yellowish color.
  • Age – As people grow older their teeth can become darker naturally.
  • Tooth decay, fillings and tartar build-up can cause discoloration.
  • Trauma – Teeth have nerves and blood vessels inside them. If these nerves and blood vessels are damaged the tooth may become darker – even several years after the trauma.
  • Medication – Staining can be caused by diseases or medicines. Tetracycline, an antibiotic, will cause a distinct discoloration if given to a child whose adult teeth are still developing.

Is everyone a candidate for teeth whitening?2019-08-07T13:54:03+05:30

NO! There is no whitening solution for most dental work such as fillings, crowns, veneers, or partial or full dentures. If the color of your teeth matches the color of your dental work before whitening, the color of your teeth will most likely be different from the color of your dental work after whitening. You are making a commitment to replacing those restorations if you whiten your teeth. We typically wait a few weeks after any whitening treatment to replace these restorations since we want to match the new color and we want the color to stabilize before choosing a color for the new restorations.

Your gums must also be healthy and any decay must be treated since both of these can be a cause of sensitivity during whitening treatments.

Teeth whitening is not recommended for children whose teeth are still developing or for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What are the side effects of teeth whitening?2019-08-07T13:52:58+05:30

Some patients report a temporary increase in sensitivity. Tender gums are also a known side effect especially if you are whitening at home and use too much of the whitening solution. Remember that a little is good, and a lot will not make your teeth any whiter.

How long will whitening last?2019-08-07T13:52:16+05:30

Since the results vary from patient to patient there is no firm answer. We do know that teeth tend to become darker as time passes, so touch-up treatments are occasionally needed to keep the teeth lightened. Your eating, drinking, smoking and home care habits definitely have an effect on how long the treatment lasts. Remember that the base shade of teeth is yellow or white and that we cannot whiten this base color. However, most patients are very satisfied with the results of whitening treatments.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Invisalign?2019-04-17T12:05:42+05:30

If you are self-conscious about misaligned or crooked teeth but you do not want to go the route of traditional metal braces, you could be the ideal Invisalign candidate. As long as you have no other dental issues, such as gum disease, this convenient, innovative, and effective teeth straightening treatment could be perfect for you.

All you need is a commitment to wearing the aligners for the appropriate hours each day and to taking care of your teeth with proper flossing and brushing. You can enjoy the advantages provided by clear braces and have straight teeth at the end of the process.

Learn more about clear braces and Invisalign by scheduling an appointment. Call Smile Dr. Nikhil’s Dental today!

How Does Invisalign Work?2019-04-17T12:04:35+05:30

Invisalign invisible braces uses a series of translucent plastic aligners that gently nudge your teeth into better alignment. These custom aligners fit tightly over your teeth and will have to be worn for most of the day and night. Every couple of weeks, you will get a new set of aligners and your teeth will continue to be repositioned over the weeks and months. The process to get your teeth into the most desirable position usually takes less time than traditional braces

When you are wearing the aligners, most people won’t even be able to see them. Since they can be removed, there are no restrictions on eating and drinking, which gives Invisalign a big advantage over traditional orthodontics. If you have a special event, such as an event or a wedding, you can remove the aligners for a few hours while you attend and then put them back in afterward to continue straightening your teeth.

Why Should You Straighten Your Teeth?2019-04-17T12:03:12+05:30

There are reasons other than esthetics alone that make it a good idea to straighten your teeth. If your teeth are crowded or overlapped, this can actually raise your risk of developing decay and gum disease.

It’s simply more difficult to brush and floss teeth that are not straight and even. If you are not cleaning your teeth properly, plaque can more easily build up below the gum line. Even gaps between your teeth can be problematic if there is a tendency for food to get trapped between your teeth.

How long will my Invisalign treatment take?2019-04-17T12:02:05+05:30

On average, most Invisalign cases in this office take 1 year.  Minor corrections may take as few as 3-6 months.  With today’s technology we can simulate the movements of your teeth before treatment is started.  This shows how the teeth are expected to move and how long it may take.

How do I know which dental treatment is best for me?2019-04-17T12:00:39+05:30

At Dr. Nikhil’s Dental, one of the tenets of our practice is the importance of patient education. We understand that sometimes treatment recommendations can seem scary, confusing, or complicated. We encourage our patients to ask questions, and we always allow enough time to go over every possibility.

When we recommend a specific treatment to you, we will provide a full discussion of advantages and any disadvantages. We will take our time to explain not only the treatment under discussion but other options, if they are available. We will never force a specific treatment; the final decision is yours and yours alone.

It is important to us that you make an informed decision that you feel completely comfortable with.

If cost of treatment is a concern, we are happy to offer payment options, including third-party financing, and we can discuss that with you as well.

It is important that our patients receive needed treatment to protect their oral health, and our goal is to work with you so that you can receive it—and feel confident that it is the right treatment for you!

I’m a baby when it comes to pain. Will my procedure hurt?2019-04-17T11:58:10+05:30

“Will my procedure hurt?” is a question we hear all the time.

We understand! We don’t particularly enjoy the time when we have to sit in the dental chair either. That is foremost in our minds when we are treating patients, and you will be pleasantly surprised to discover that we have a few tricks up our sleeves when it comes to making sure you are comfortable in the chair.

We want your visit to be comfortable, and that means we do what we can to ensure that your time in the dental chair is as free of stress and pain as possible. If you are getting a local anesthetic, we will apply a numbing agent to your gums beforehand so you won’t feel it. This will ensure you are comfortable for the entire procedure. The only thing you will experience is a bit of noise, perhaps some pressure, and a little spray from the water.

Another thing we find that is helpful for our patients is that we are very clear on exactly what your treatment will entail. Knowledge is power—and we do what we can to make sure you are educated on any procedures before they happen.

How Long Will Smile Design Last?2019-04-17T11:55:31+05:30

A smile design case typically lasts between 15 and 20 years, but can be even longer with proper maintenance and proper care.

Do you have parts of your smile you’ve considered improving? Do you wonder what’s possible or what’s involved? Give us a call and book a free consultation to discover what your options are. As always, we welcome your comments and feedback on this or any of our other videos. Please take a moment and leave us your thoughts or any questions that you may have.

Why would I need an RCT?2019-04-17T11:38:07+05:30

RCT treatment is necessary when the pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal, becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, or a crack or chip in the tooth. In addition, an injury to a tooth may cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible chips or cracks. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.

What are the signs of needing RCT?2019-04-17T11:38:28+05:30

Signs to look for include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, tenderness to touch and chewing, discoloration of the tooth, and swelling, drainage and tenderness in the lymph nodes as well as nearby bone and gingival tissues. Sometimes, however, there are no symptoms.

Will I feel pain during or after the RCT?2019-04-17T11:38:52+05:30

Many RCT’s are performed to relieve the pain of toothaches caused by pulp inflammation or infection. With modern techniques and anesthetics, most patients report that they are comfortable during the procedure.
For the first few days after treatment, your tooth may feel sensitive, especially if there was pain or infection before the procedure. This discomfort can be relieved with over-the-counter or prescription medications. Follow your dentist’s instructions carefully.
Your tooth may continue to feel slightly different from your other teeth for some time after your RCT is completed. However, if you have severe pain or pressure or pain that lasts more than a few days, call your dentist.

How does RCT save the tooth?2019-04-17T11:40:42+05:30

The dentist removes the inflamed or infected pulp, carefully cleans and shapes the inside of the canal, a channel inside the root, then fills and seals the space. Afterwards, you will return to your dentist, who will place a crown or other restoration on the tooth to protect and restore it to full function. After restoration, the tooth continues to function like any other tooth.

How much will root canal treatment cost?2019-04-17T11:41:33+05:30

The cost varies depending on how complex the problem is and which tooth is affected. Molars are more difficult to treat, the fee is usually more. Most dental insurance policies of corporates likes IOCL, NFL, panipat provide the reimbursement for the same. Generally, RCT and restoration of the natural tooth are less expensive than the alternative of having the tooth extracted. An extracted tooth must be replaced with a bridge or implant to restore chewing function and prevent adjacent teeth from shifting. These procedures tend to cost more than RCT and appropriate restoration. With root canal treatment you save your natural teeth and money.

Normally the charges range from 4000 -8000 per tooth for root canal and capping included. The range is according to the level of difficulty, materials used and the quality of cap placed.

Will the tooth need any special care or additional treatment after RCT?2019-04-17T11:41:56+05:30

You should not chew or bite on the treated tooth until you have had it restored by your dentist. The unrestored tooth is susceptible to fracture, so you should see your dentist for a full restoration as soon as possible. Otherwise, you need only practice good oral hygiene, including brushing, flossing, and regular checkups and cleanings.
Most RCT treated teeth last as long as other natural teeth. In a few cases, a tooth that has undergone RCT does not heal or the pain continues. Occasionally, the tooth may become painful or diseased months or even years after successful treatment. Often when this occurs, redoing the RCT can save the tooth.

How Long Does the Smile Design Procedure Take?2020-03-16T13:45:18+05:30
